about

The production goliath known as Dr. NoiseM strikes again with the 21st sequel of his "Studio Works"-series, this time creating an 18 track album around three major pieces of 9+ ("W34"), 12+ ("LDI") and even 17+minutes ("Outer Limits") runtime whilst many other pieces vary between 5 seconds and 4+ minutes with the majority of them being skits of under 2 minutes length. Opening with three of those skits the longplay piece caters a Deep Listening Music vibe touched by Dark Ambient before the first main piece "LDI" puts the Dr.'s trademark respiratory sounds into an context of calm, tender and fragile Ambient, providing floating, slowly moving string layers and angelic non-vocalisms before "New Atlantic" fuses thundering background noises with cold and defo more scientific sounding bleeps which might be taken from outer space radiocommunication snippets of alien lifeforms. Furthermore "Noise Terra" warps a mixture of digital Noize and Ambient structures to a perception twisting effect, "Origam" gives us a feel of caustic winds whipping over frozen, flora-less plains and "Outer Limits", the next main tune on the album kills every braincell in a slowly grinding maelstrom of Cold Ambient and distorted Noize, an ever rotating stream of sounds like an enormous black glacier or an unstoppable, forward moving river of molten lava. Amongst a following series of short tunes and skits covering both Dark Ambient and slow motion Industrial Hardcore the funnily named "Scheisse Bewegt Scheisse" (translate as: 'Shit Moves Shit') serves a nerve-wrecking attack of high frequency Digital Noize and the final major length cut "W34" weighs in more expertly crafted Dark Ambient for those loving this specific variation of the electronic underground scene to bits.
